Heat index warnings in effect

... ELEVATED HEAT INDEX VALUES EXPECTED THIS WEEK...
HEAT INDEX VALUES WILL BE BETWEEN 102 TO 107 DEGREES THIS AFTERNOON. THE ELEVATED HEAT INDEX VALUES WILL CONTINUE THROUGH AT LEAST THURSDAY AS TEMPERATURES IN THE LOWER TO MIDDLE 90S COMBINE WITH DEW POINT VALUES IN THE MIDDLE TO UPPER 70S."

This is the warning from weather.com for our area. They aren't kidding either. I had to walk out to the mail box and even at 9AM it was mid 70's with high humidity. Right now, 11:30 AM its 81 degrees with 79% humidity. And we will hit our high of warmer temperature later today. The air is still, not much breeze, and it is overcast. Those clouds seems to be holding in the warmth and the humidity. And later it will just get more oppressive than it is now. Not my favorite weather. Not one of those things I love about Texas. But it is early summer in Austin. It won't get cooler for months.

And no rain in the forecast. But we might hit a high of 98 by Saturday.  We'll wait and see.

Vegas at night. Taken fron the walk way between MGM Grand and New York, New York hotels. Today is Tuesday Nov. 14. We started our journey in Seattle. We left Tuesday, Nov. 7 from Seattle. Our first stop was Ontario, OR. From there we drove to Provo, UT. We left Provo for Las Vegas. We stopped for a couple of days in Las Vegas to meet with a friend. It was also nice to take the break since we've been driving full 8 hour days. It was nice to have a few days of decent food and the chance too walk around. Its interesting driving from Seattle to San Antonio, TX. The landscape changes so much and so does the air. In Las Vegas the humidity was in the single digits - very dry. Nothing like what Seattle was when we left. Also as we've driven south the temperature has also changed considerable. Actually we left Seattle when we did because of the weather. San Antonio Nov. 2006

San Antonio is not Seattle. It is a beautiful day. Clear blue skies and we should get to about 74 degrees today. And its supposed to be in the high 60's to mid 70's for the next few days. And no rain to speak of in sight. On the flip side the aquifers are a bit on the low side here which is not good. This really is an arid climate. But after driving through rain, its a nice change. Since I'm new to blogs I'm still learning how this works. For those who have put comments with questions, I don't seem to have a way to reply to your questions. Especially those that are listed as anonymous. So I'm working on how to reply - just part of the learning process.
